Conference presentation delivered at the Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences / CSSE (2016) conference.
The presentation draws on research for my doctoral studies. The focus of the presentation was on the critical systems theory concept of boundary judgement, that boundaries are created by the identification of the system when decisions are made regarding what to include and what to exclude. Explored within the context of Canadian K-12 education, the research identified examples of curricular and pedagogical decisions teachers can make which demonstrate critical understanding of boundary judgements, drawing attention to issues of power and the normative content of those judgements. |
