Consuming society

Currently, the way humans consume resources has become a serious issue. Driven my capitalism, we are seemingly trapped in a cycle of increased consumption. This not just puts a strain on our environment but also increases inequalities at social and economic levels. Why do individuals consume more than is necessary for survival? What factors contribute to some individuals consuming significantly less than required for survival? How does the large disparity in consumption patterns impact society? I would hypothesize that the wicked problems of poverty and food scarcity lie in the lack of proper food distribution. millions of tonnes of food is wasted every day, particularly in Global North countries. My research aims to determine the root causes of over-consumption and it's implications for poverty and food scarcity, particularly in global south countries. This is important because we are currently in a global crisis when it comes to having enough resources for everyone to survive. There are millions of people without clean water or food to eat to sustain themselves. I want to find workable solutions that can have a positive rippling effect locally, and around the globe.
