Abstract
What is the impact on queer people of media sexualization of queer people? The purpose of the study is to understand the impacts that sexualization in the media has on queer people. The study is meant to understand the perceptions of stereotypical and sexualized roles and portrayals of queer people in the media. Theoretical framework including the queer theory will help to understand the insights and themes of the study. The study would be a qualitative research study using exploratory interview questions and an inductive approach. Qualitative approach helps to understand the diversity of all participants and also allows the participants of the study to share their own thoughts and understandings of the topic. The implications of the study are that it exposes people to how media impacts the Queer community and also promotes education to future generations on stereotypes and bias around the LGBTQ community. Poster submission was sponsored by Dr. Cal Oliver, (Applied Community Studies Department) and was presented at the Coquitlam campus on April 9, 2024, for Student Research Days 2024. |
