Abstract
The research project, "Bright Minds, Green Campus: Our Sustainable College Journey," addresses the imperative for educational institutions to champion sustainability. Douglas College aims to integrate climate change and sustainability topics into its curriculum, aligning with UN SDGs and the college's sustainability policy. The central research question explores innovative approaches to engage students in these critical areas. Major outcomes include strategies for curriculum integration, involving students in real-world sustainability projects, and organizing awareness events in collaboration with NGOs and government bodies. Additionally, the project aims to elevate the college's STARS rating from silver to gold, signifying a heightened commitment to sustainability. The research's implications extend beyond the college, fostering a culture of environmental responsibility in both academic and practical domains. By sharing knowledge and innovative practices, Douglas College seeks to establish a sustainable partnership with the private sector and local communities. The project aligns with the broader goals of the climate action, responsible consumption and production, sustainable communities, and quality education outlined in the UN SDGs, setting a precedent for educational institutions to actively contribute to a sustainable future. Poster submission was sponsored by Dr. Siobhan Ashe, (Humanities and Social Sciences Department) for course SOCIO 2270 and was presented at the New Westminster campus on April 11, 2024, for Student Research Days 2024. |
