Description / Synopsis
Part of a series of forums that Douglas College is hosting in partnership with SFU and the City of New Westminster. The goal of these forums is to provide an occasion for frank discussion on important issues facing urban and suburban communities, to both inform and learn from academics, practitioners, and citizens. Modern urban spaces are often perceived as only for humans, but the city was and is where many wild animals make their home. How can we do more to support positive human-wildlife cohabitation?
Moderator: Rob McGregor, Director, Institute of Urban Ecology (Douglas College). Panelists: Andrea Morgan, Support Center Manager (Wildlife Rescue Association of British Columbia). Andrea has a Master’s of Arts in Leadership from Royal Roads University. She works in wildlife rescue and rehabilitation and is passionate about finding new ways to promote healthy wildlife cohabitation. (6:53) Dr. Rosemary Collard, Environment (SFU). Dr. Collard is a human geographer, political ecologist, and professor in Geography. She was raised on Vancouver Island around lots of animals including cougars, which sparked her first interest in researching how colonialism and capitalism have shaped animal life in relation to people and animals and especially wildlife.
