Lara has more than 20 years of post-secondary teaching experience in Canada and the United States. Before starting at Douglas College, she taught at North Carolina State University (Raleigh, North Carolina) in the Physical Education Department and the University of Florida (Gainesville, Florida) as a graduate teaching assistant. Lara combines knowledge from kinesiology and engineering sciences to construct undergraduate Biomechanics curriculum. The designed curriculum engages students whose goals include teaching physical education, career coaching, and kinesiology degrees. Additionally, she presents course material and content in a student-centered format to promote autonomous, inquiry development as part of the learning experience.
<p>Lara’s previous research interests include running injury research and sport specific research topics. Fall 2012, Lara earned the Dartfish Certified Technologist (version 6.0) credential and continues to explore kinematic motion analysis research opportunities. Recently, Lara applied a comprehensive qualitative analysis model to Canadian Wheelchair Curling athletes to improve technical aspects of their game in preparation for the Winter 2014 Paralympics. Lara is developing relationships with local sports clubs and college varsity athletic teams to provide motion analysis for athletes and coaches.
