Reid is interested in the application of a variety of pressure-temperature determination methods and mineral age dating techniques to establish the timing and conditions of deformation, metamorphism, and exhumation of mid-to lower crustal rocks during mountain building (orogenesis) and how these data can be used to reconstruct the crustal architecture within an orogen at various times in the Earth's past. Reid's past research was conducted in poly-deformed and -metamorphosed rocks in both the Wolversine metamorphic complex in north-central BC and the Yukon-Tanana terrane in the northern Canadian Cordilleran orogen.
